![]() In a Change of Command Ceremony on Indy's Foc'sle, Capt. Richard O. McHarg officially assumed command as the 54th Commander of Carrier Air Wing FIVE.
Today on the Foc'sle there was a sea of white as the Carrier Air Wing FIVE staff and Independence personnel witnessed Malden pass his command on to McHarg. The thing about a Change of Command such as this one, it was also a goodbye as Malden left to head out to his next duty station.

After they each read their orders, the Command changed hands from one to the other.
Farewell Mauldin. |
Well... we're past Singapore now and out in the open on
our last stretch home. Today Independence said "farewell" to Capt. Richard
J. Mauldin who is transferring to Arlington, Va. where he'll serve as the Command,
Control, Communications, and Computer Systems Directorate (J6), Chairman of Joint Chiefs
of Staff.
Watching a Change of Command is like sitting back in a theater taking in a movie that involves a military scenario. Ok, so, really all I am reminded of is the graduation scene in "Top Gun" before Maverick heads off to save the day...
Rear Adm. Charles W. Moore, Jr., (below) Battle Force SEVENTH Fleet was the guest speaker at the change of command ceremony.
