Commander
Dubyak was commissioned an Ensign via Aviation Officer
Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. After brief
assignment to VP-16 in Jacksonville, Florida, he reported
for primary NFO training at VT-10 in March, 1981. He
selected E-2's and received initial training at RVAW-110.
Commander
Dubyak's first fleet squadron was VAW-114, where he
served as Legal Officer and Material Control Officer. He
completed two deployments aboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN
70), including a round-the-world cruise.
In January
1986, Commander Dubyak was assigned to the Air Operations
Department at Commander in Chief, US Naval Forces Europe,
in London, UK. In January 1988 he reported to the staff
of Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group Five in San Diego,
California, deploying with the USS RANGER (CV 61) Battle
Group.
Commander
Dubyak was next assigned to VAW-110 as an NFO instructor
and department head in May 1990. His tour included
service as FRAMP Officer and Training Officer.
Commander
Dubyak's first tour with the Liberty Bells began in April
1992. He served initially as Administrative Officer and,
ultimately, as Operations Officer. His tour included two
full deployments and was highlighted by the inauguration
of Operation Southern Watch. He detached from VAW-115 in
June 1994, and he reported to the Naval War College in
Newport, RI, where he graduated with distinction in June
1995.
While
assigned as a War College student, Commander Dubyak was
selected for an Admiral Arthur S. Moreau Fellowship for
Post -Masters study in the Political - Military area.
After a year of study at the JFK School of Government at
Harvard University, he reported for his second tour with
the Liberty Bells, this time as Executive Officer, in
July 1996. On October 8, 1997, CDR Dubyak relieved CDR
Robert Schoppe to become VAW-115's 26th Commanding
Officer.
Commander
Dubyak holds a Bachelor's Degree from Georgetown
University's School of Foreign Service and a Masters
Degrees from the Naval War College and Harvard. He is
married to the former Janice K. Goyette of Bennington,
VT. They have two sons, Grant and Thomas.
