ROYAL MACE MISSION AND VISION STATEMENT* SQUADRON MISSION. The mission of this command is to engage an enemy in sustained combat operations as directed by competent authority. Our F/A-18 aircraft and aircrews must be capable of delivering first pass lethality anywhere, any time! To successfully accomplish this dangerous and demanding mission we must rigorously train and critically evaluate our performance as a fighting unit. "The more you train in peacetime, the less you bleed in war". The true measure of the "Royal Maces" worth as a fighting unit will be sustained combat readiness. * SAFETY. No evolution during peacetime is worth compromising the safety of a shipmate or unnecessary damage to equipment. We must strive to maintain an atmosphere where every "Mace" is empowered and morally compelled to intervene to stop any unsafe practice or evolution. Complacency is the mortal enemy of safety. Let there be no doubt, Safety Awareness and proactive Risk Management is a full time, all hands effort. * "INTEGRITY, HONESTY, RESPECT". I expect all "Maces'" to promote the concepts of "Integrity, Honesty, and Respect" throughout the command and Air Wing. Supervisors must demonstrate the integrity required to make the "hard" decisions, and to hold all hands to the same set of standards. I expect an honest answer for an honest question. Mistakes happen...lying will not be tolerated. * Subordinates must have the courage to pass "bad news" up the chain when required. "Bad news does not get better with age". I demand total respect for the Navy, our shipmates and their families, and our Japanese host and their culture. Discrimination or harassment in any form is unacceptable! * PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. Supervisors are tasked with providing their people with the motivation, time, and tools necessary to improve themselves both professionally and personally. We must ensure junior personnel are promotion-ready and progressing in all qualifications. Develop the leadership skills of subordinates. They are our best natural resource. Encourage off-duty education. Set goals for improving physical fitness. It is our duty to ensure that "Maces'" leaving this command are better trained and physically and spiritually stronger than when they arrived. * FAMILY. This command is dedicated to stability within the family and the physical and emotional well being of our family members. We must provide ongoing information regarding family support services and encourage participation in family service programs. Supervisors must handle each family crisis with urgency and sensitivity. I will encourage and support quality off-duty family time. I will keep the spouses informed. * PRIDE. The "Royal Maces'" have enjoyed a long history of success and Esprit de Corps in the aviation community. We must continue to set the standard for personal and professional excellence within the Air Wing. Team spirit and camaraderie will be our hallmark. All hands must have a strong sense of belonging to an elite corps of professional naval warriors... "ROYAL MACES" |
