Talk show host Montel Williams, a former Lt. Cmdr. in the U.S. Navy Reserve, recently re-enlisted 18 Sailors from Independence and Carrier Air Wing FIVE.

Sailors crowded the forecastle as re-enlistees raised their right hands and recited the oath of enlistment.

"I'm truly touched and honored to be able to do this," an emotional Williams said. "This has helped me remember my Navy experiences."

Williams said he feels people in the military aren't always respected for their dedication and the sacrifices they've made for their country.

"The point of me coming out here is to help change that attitude through my show," Williams said.

During the ceremony, participates heard remarks from Williams and had their picture taken with him.

"For Montel to come over here makes this experience very special to me," Aviation Structural Mechanic (Hydraulics) 2nd Class (AW) Gregory Porter from Ontario, Calif. said.

"It was a very emotional and touching," said Personnelman 3rd Class (SW) Christopher Wooten of St. Louis, Mo. "It was outstanding."

Together the 18 Sailors have a total of 106 years of service in the Navy. Combined they re-enlisted for a total of 46 years.
