Kibler, VAW-115 PAO email: pamoor52@cv62.navy.mil Date: March 27, 1998 The Liberty Bells of VAW-115 have proudly announced the Sailor of the Month for February is Avionics Technician 2nd Class Shawn L. Brown.
Brown made the transition to the E-2C Hawkeye after completing Fleet Replacement and Maintenance Program (FRAMP) training in Norfolk, Va. following the combining of the AQ and AT rating. As the night-check supervisor in the avionics shop, Brown is in charge of four technicians whose main responsibilities are to keep the Hawkeyes complex radar, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), Tactical Data Link, and communications systems working. "I feel one of the most satisfying rewards of my job is finally solving a problem that has been stumping us," Brown said. "It really tests our knowledge as a shop and we feel good when we get it right." Browns perspective on his job is broader than just that of his shop. "We have a responsibility to the entire Air Wing," he commented, "if we dont get a Hawkeye airborne, then other squadrons who rely on us have degraded mission capability." "AT2 Brown is the leader of the pack who takes charge and consistently produces up airplanes," AT1 (AW) Chris Andrews, Browns Leading Petty Officer said. Brown, however, views operable E-2Cs as more than just products, "they are essentially a representation of oneself," he said. It is precisely this attitude and work ethic that earned Avionics Technician 2nd Class Shawn Brown "Liberty Bell Sailor of the Month" for February. Caption: AT2 Shawn L.
